"For
Thought..."
I have to confess the first time I went whitewater rafting I
was a bit nervous. When I got off the bus that transported my
family and me up river, I glanced at the river and then back
at the rafts in the trailer behind us. I thought to myself -
we’re going down that river in those rubber boats and no one
here except our guide knows how to steer it?!? What?!? Am I
crazy?!?
I must not have been the only one displaying a somewhat
confused look as the lead river guide quickly assured us that
we would spend most of the morning "in the quiet waters"
learning how to guide the raft through the rapids and away
from the rocks!
This year, as I went to the river with the "River gang," I
couldn’t help but notice that the river where we were going to
launch wasn’t quiet like the last time. And, once again, I got
a little apprehensive. Not for me, mind you, but for those
going down the river for the first time.
How were they going to learn the basic commands and maneuvers?
Were we just going to get in the river, hit a class three
rapid and learn on the fly?
Once again, the lead guide came to the rescue. We were quickly
assured that we would stay on the bank of the river and learn
some basic techniques before we launched.
I guess the guide didn’t want to us to wrap around a rock or
flip either!
We spent a considerable amount of time on the bank of the
Arkansas River learning some elementary facts about the river
itself and the how and why of certain commands.
Once we accept God’s invitation into His "raft" - into His
"river" - it is to our advantage to learn the basic attributes
of God and some of His basic spiritual truths for life.

"Family Matters..."
Men talking to men. (Now
there’s something out of the ordinary!!) Beginning September 7th,
and ending October 12th, you are invited to join with several
other men to play nine holes of ‘best ball’ golf. Immediately
afterward, we will meet and discuss Tony Dungy’s book, Quiet
Strength, using his study guide as our guide. Both resources are
available at Crossroads in Sioux Falls, Barnes and Noble (in Sioux
Falls and the internet), and Amazon.com.
NO..
you don’t have to golf to participate in the discussion!! -
just read the book and show up. And you need to give Ron your
email address so he can send you the location of the discussion
group gathering.
Tee times will always be 4.oo. Location to be determined "as we
go" - we may want to play several courses in the area.
Talk to Ron for more information and to get on his email mailing
list to keep you informed about locations for golf and discussion
gatherings.
Help drill water wells in Cameroon Africa.
Each time you get a bottle of water from the "water table" near
the coffee counter, throw a buck or two in the bucket. All
donations received in the bucket will be used to help provide
safe, clean water to the people living in the remote areas of
Cameroon.
Additional parking is
available in the city parking lot across the street behind the
Knology building.
